How to use the Paver Calculator

Use this paver calculator to estimate pavers, paver base, paver sand and project cost for patios, walkways and other paved areas. It supports imperial and metric measurements.

  1. Choose the calculator mode that matches your project.
  2. Enter the area or material measurements.
  3. Enter the waste allowance and other required inputs.
  4. Click Calculate to see the estimated quantity, volume or cost.

Paver Base Calculator

The paver base calculator estimates how much base material you need below pavers. Enter the paved area, base depth, waste allowance and density to estimate cubic feet, cubic yards and approximate weight.

How much paver base do I need?

Calculate the paved area, multiply it by the planned base depth, then add a waste allowance. Base depth depends on soil, drainage, climate, expected loads and project requirements, so use the specification for your project.

Paver base calculator in cubic yards

Aggregate is commonly sold by the cubic yard. This calculator converts the required volume into cubic yards so you can compare the estimate with supplier quantities and pricing.

Paver base calculator in tons

Base material weight depends on density. Use supplier density when available because aggregate type, moisture and compaction can change actual weight.

Paver Sand Calculator

The paver sand calculator estimates sand volume and approximate weight from the paved area, sand depth, waste allowance and density.

How much paver sand do I need?

Required sand depends on area and planned depth. Use the installation specification or supplier recommendation for your paver system when available.

Paver Quantity Calculator

The paver quantity calculator estimates individual pavers from patio area, paver dimensions, joint gap and waste percentage.

Paver calculator square feet

For a rectangular patio, multiply length by width to calculate square feet. For several sections, use Multiple Areas.

How many pavers do I need?

The calculator estimates the effective coverage of each paver using its dimensions and joint gap, applies the waste allowance and rounds the purchase quantity up to a whole paver.

Paver Patio Calculator

The paver patio calculator combines the main material quantities for a patio, including paved area, paver base and paver sand.

Patio paver calculator

A patio paver calculator is useful for rectangular patios, walkways and similar paved areas. Measure irregular sections separately when needed.

Paver Cost Calculator

The paver cost calculator combines paver material, base material, sand and labor inputs to create a project planning estimate.

Paver patio cost calculator

The paver patio cost calculator can include paver material, labor, removal or preparation and other project costs. Enter actual supplier or contractor prices for a more useful estimate.

Paver price calculator

Paver prices vary by material, size, style, thickness, supplier, location and order quantity. Use the price you expect to pay.

Paver Calculator formulas

Area = Length × Width

For paver quantity, the calculator uses paver dimensions and joint gap to estimate effective coverage, then applies waste.

Volume = Area × Depth

Volume with waste = Base volume × (1 + Waste % ÷ 100)

Weight is estimated from volume and the selected material density.

How much waste should I add for pavers?

Waste depends on the paver pattern, cuts, corners, breakage, site shape and installation method. The calculator starts with 10% as a practical planning allowance, but you can adjust it.

Paver base depth

Base depth varies by project type, soil, drainage, climate and expected loads. A pedestrian walkway can have different requirements from a driveway. Follow the project specification or qualified local guidance.

Paver Calculator for Multiple Areas

Use Multiple Areas when a project has more than one patio, walkway or paved section. Add each area separately and the calculator combines the volume.

Paver Calculator examples

Example: paver quantity

A 20 ft × 12 ft patio has 240 sq ft. With 8 × 4 inch pavers, a 0.125 inch joint gap and 10% waste, the calculator estimates about 8.22 pavers before rounding, so the purchase quantity is 9.

Example: paver base

A 20 ft × 12 ft area with a 6 inch base depth has 120 cubic feet before waste. With 10% waste, the estimate is 132 cubic feet, or about 4.89 cubic yards.

Example: paver sand

A 20 ft × 12 ft area with a 1 inch sand depth has 20 cubic feet before waste. With 10% waste, the estimate is 22 cubic feet, or about 0.81 cubic yards.

Important notes for paver estimates

  • Use actual paver dimensions and joint gaps.
  • Base depth should follow project requirements and site conditions.
  • Aggregate density varies with material, moisture and compaction.
  • Supplier coverage, bag sizes and delivery quantities can vary.
  • Labor and project costs vary by location, access and scope.
  • For driveways and load-bearing areas, follow appropriate construction specifications.
  • Calculator results are estimates and should be checked before purchasing materials or accepting a project price.

Paver Calculator FAQ

How do I calculate how many pavers I need?

Measure the paved area, enter paver dimensions and joint gap, add waste and round up to a whole paver.

How much paver base do I need?

Calculate area × required base depth, then add waste. Use the Paver Base mode for cubic feet, cubic yards and estimated tons.

How much paver sand do I need?

Multiply paved area by planned sand depth and add waste. Use the Paver Sand mode for volume and approximate weight.

How deep should paver base be?

There is no single depth for every project. Requirements vary by soil, drainage, climate, use and expected loads. Follow the project specification.

How much does a paver patio cost?

Cost depends on pavers, base, sand, labor, site preparation, removal and local pricing. Use actual project prices in the cost modes.

Can I calculate pavers in square feet?

Yes. Select the appropriate unit system and enter the patio dimensions.

Does the paver calculator work for a driveway?

You can estimate quantities, but driveway base depth and construction requirements should come from the appropriate project specification.

Does the paver calculator work in metric?

Yes. Select Metric and enter the measurements using the units displayed by the calculator.

What is a paver base calculator?

A paver base calculator estimates the volume and approximate weight of aggregate needed below a paved surface from area, depth, waste and density.
